Silver Papal States Coffe Pot, Rome, circa 1820

Height x diameter including handle: 41.5 x 24.4 cm. Weight: 1080 g.

ovoid body with palmette decoration in the lower part and upper frame with grape shoots and vine leaves, resting on a square foot; tapering neck with moulded pourer and zoomorphic spout, hinged lid topped with a winged putto musician, horn handle.


Hallmarked on the foot with the chamber marks in use in Rome after 1815 for a silver fineness at 10 ounces and 16 denari (889/1000) and with the silversmith's mark of Luigi Sciolet (1818-1847), son of Gaetano and Elisabetta Benedetti, born in Rome in 1797; patented as master in 1818, he paid the annual workshop fee until 1847.

Item condition grading: **** good, minor signs of use commensurate with use over time.
